Work for the Weary and Desperate

the tedium fast held at arms length felt
as though life drained from fingers ached to death
and knew what pain such ever lasting breath
did seethe in breast so weighted down pelt
no longer man but beast in furze now dwelt
and saw, have seen, does see humanity lethe,
in that river drowning gilt, eyes beneath
but all that beauty now despair does melt
and in that water seeing now their sins
regret and grief do fall within the heart
but naught can save, for their’s is life now gone
and naught but hate their legacy now spins
and naught their minds will find that peace they sought
but mind and body gone, and rest unknown
