A Sonnet Crown

Oh, Once upon a time, I think it goes,
There was a girl, and too, there was a boy.
In love they found themselves so much in throes
that all else round them was less than their joy
and so by measures thus they did frustrate
all others whose advances were denied
and oft were angered by how they’d relate
that many would conspire to break the tied
pair, that blissfully unaware, were meant
to be together and forever more
have love beyond the books. the stars were sent
to guide their union not be broken for
the simple men or girls who were denied
Their undivided love focused and tried

Their undivided love focused and tried
went into spin as those who hated fierce
began deceit and spite filled acts applied
to tear the two in twain and thus did pierce
the holy reverent chalice in tears
they lied, built false truths for two
to fear and hate and to doubt each others
intentions for the schemes were deep and few
one for the boy, one for the gal to stew
the lovers were unawares at first free
of worry or concern as lovers do
but this was not to last as schemes foul be
the two were shown a lie of love gone stray
both went to tears and torment that sour day

Both went to tears and torment that sour day
she ran and ran afield and wept dark streams
he bent low down, wept bitter tears in teams
she fled all day and night from who’d betray
and he did nothing but in his bed lay
now thus they were torn hatefully at seams
and thus they stayed for fortnight in their dreams
or night terrors visited on their fay
she tossed and turned all night nearly insane
he begged heaven and hell to take their toll
she lunged toward death or else she nearly feign
he sought his end in drink or smoke or brole
each one to ends in strife, imagined hell
Each lover went their way and so they fell

Each lover went their way and so they fell
subject to those the lies they both believed
but not forever separate they’d dwell
for love once lost in truth can be retrieved
if love did truly find its mate at first
then hope can blossom still if left safe ground
so thus the future does hold hope if thirst
remains for love. so two can yet be found
he was first to regain hope off he set
to find the love he once held so close
he went in search of love and fair beauty
that had been in his charge, nay his duty
to love, protect and hold. So now he chose.
A trek he makes across the highland wet

A trek he makes across the highland wet
where last his love was seen running afar
he walked all through the night by a bright star
the morn showed him where his true love was set
and there he ran to her, his love to get
she did at first shy away for past scar
but he implored and showed his heart by far
she looked deep in his soul and the onset
of love again took root in heart and soul
she took his hand and heart and gave him hers
so two were one again, they ventured on
for home and joyful now that love was whole
they jumped and played all through the spiny furze
renewed their love with lightness t’ward new dawn

renewed their love with lightness t’ward new dawn
so bold new lovers went back to their home
and found the brazen jealousy they’d flown
now face to face with anger hatred drawn
the two stood tall and walkéd home, fear gone
so fervent was their passion to the bone
each other knew the hand in theirs had grown
stronger with trials troubles faced and won
the enemies of love could win no more
and so their love was tempered strong and true
into their home they walked, heads high broad smiles
they knew together they’d face tasking trials
but as a pair could conquer all things new
up to the heav’ns, their love was free to soar

up to the heav’ns, their love was free to soar
so futures bright they did attempt to find
and love did guide them all the while in mind
of beauty and all the things that are made for
lovers found in true love and such rapport
then does the couple peace and joy so bind
in heart and soul, in body and in kind
their beings whole they seek nothing but the core
of long lived love, tied to a hearth that grows
so they gaze into eyes of fear now purged
and be as one til eternity shows
how love has triumphed over all and knows
how oft a true love broken can be forged
Oh, Once upon a time, I think it goes
